KNESS has completed the implementation of a new hybrid energy project. Under the EPC contract, a ground-based solar power plant (SPP) was built along with an energy storage system (ESS).
SPP with a capacity of 1.2 MW will generate over 1,440,084 kWh of clean electricity annually, and ESS with a capacity of 5 MWh will allow it to be used during hours of reduced generation or increased demand. This is an effective combination of available solar energy and energy storage technologies.
The project was implemented by the KNESS team in a full EPC cycle format: from design and equipment supply to construction and commissioning. Metal structures manufactured by KNESS were used for the assembly of the solar power plant. The energy storage system was provided in partnership with one of the world’s leading manufacturers, HiTHIUM.
Going forward, KNESS will provide comprehensive maintenance services for the facility under an O&M contract. Integration into the electricity market is also the sole responsibility of KNESS. In particular, our R&D center team has developed an EMS for managing the ESS and analyzing the operation of the facility’s electrical installations. Among other services, our specialists will provide commercial management of electrical installations, commercial metering, and forecasting electricity generation from the solar power plant. The facility will also be included in the KNESS Balancing Group.
ESS is the key to increasing the efficiency of RES facilities and, accordingly, multiplying the available clean distributed generation. That is why the number of hybrid RES projects is constantly growing. With each such project, we continue to transform Ukraine’s energy sector towards sustainability, flexibility, and carbon neutrality.
