KNESS at Forbes AI Summit

“Our team has undergone a transition from healthy skepticism to reasonable optimism in the use of AI technologies,” shared Ivan Davydiuk, Chief Legal Affairs Officer in KNESS Group, during his speech at the Forbes AI Summit. This event became a platform for frank discussions among representatives of leading technology companies, experts, scientists, and technology leaders about how AI works in business here and now: what results it produces, what investments it requires, what risks it carries, and how it affects competitiveness.

In his speech during the workshop, Ivan Davydiuk focused on KNESS’s practical experience in integrating AI into legal work.

Key takeaways from the KNESS expert’s speech:

  • “Source of skepticism”: initial attempts to use open AI services to analyze court practice and international legislation proved ineffective — most of the neural network responses were inaccurate or fictitious. As a result, the legal team, together with AI implementation specialists, worked productively to improve their own AI agent, which now provides much more accurate and relevant answers, citing real sources.
  • KNESS’s AI agent ”Lawyer-Practitioner” is based on the open-source Open WebUI solution with access to all advanced AI models. The platform’s multimodality is one of its main advantages, allowing it to offer several solution options and “check” them against each other. This improves the quality of the agent’s legal analysis and reduces the likelihood of missing important details or creating fictitious content.
  • How did we get to “optimism” in the use of AI? Thanks to close cooperation between the digital transformation department and the legal department, detailed analysis, and the development of accurate and effective search queries (prompts), KNESS specialists “taught” the AI agent to work with a relevant database of verified websites and regulatory sources. This has significantly increased the accuracy of results, in particular to 99% (in terms of searching and analyzing judicial practice).
  • In daily legal work, the AI agent is also used to analyze Ukrainian and international legislation, prepare notices of opposition, protocols, statements of claim, contractual documentation, and business correspondence. It helps to quickly find the necessary information, structure and concisely present arguments in letters, form basic drafts of new complex legal documents, etc. And all this without any language barriers, including when interacting with counterparties from different EU countries and other regions, which is especially important for companies operating not only in Ukraine but also abroad.
  • One of the practical cases in which AI played an important role in the work of KNESS lawyers was resolving a critical situation with customs clearance of equipment at the border. Thanks to the AI agent, our team quickly found and analyzed the EU regulatory act and the special legal mechanism contained therein. Based on this, we were able to prepare the appropriate legal justification, which allowed us to avoid significant delays in the delivery of important equipment and components.
  • We are currently in the process of continuously integrating AI into the KNESS ERP system. Today, directly within the system, lawyers can  ask AI questions about a specific document in a chat format without leaving their work environment and receive concise, relevant answers, which speeds up work with contracts. The system also automatically compares different versions of contracts and highlights the changes made compared to previous versions. We are currently continuing to refine and implement new AI features and additions.

“AI is a tool which, when used correctly, minimizes routine tasks, optimizes task completion times, and allows the legal team to focus on what matters most: protecting interests and developing the business. How can you master this tool? Empower your team with open-minded individuals, encourage innovative thinking, and incorporate new technologies into core processes, making routine tasks progressive,” concluded Ivan Davydiuk.

Innovation is one of KNESS’s core values, which permeates all our activities. That is why we are always happy to share our practical experience, this time on the application of AI in the legal field. We would like to thank the organizers of the Forbes AI Summit for the invitation and the opportunity for professional dialogue on the role of artificial intelligence in business transformation.
