KNESS participated in post-URC online discussion within the Dialogue Hub

Tetiana Petrovska, Commercial Director in KNESS, participated in a post-URC online discussion held as part of the Dialogue Hub organized by the Ukrainian Energy Initiative of the UN Global Compact in Ukraine. The expert shared KNESS’s experience in implementing renewable energy and energy storage projects, which are critical to the development of a sustainable, flexible, and decentralized power system.

“The transformation of the power system toward decentralization is already underway. In practice, this means an increase in the share of generation located close to consumers, particularly based on renewable energy sources and combined with energy storage systems for more efficient asset management. The role of energy storage systems as a standalone tool for balancing the power grid and ensuring local autonomy is also growing,” Tetiana noted.

The speaker also noted that, currently, the construction of distributed generation facilities involves the use of modular substations or container-based solutions, which can be quickly installed and do not require significant resources. The availability of spare parts for the prompt repair of key components is also critical.

Another significant factor in implementing such projects today is security as one of the cornerstones of technical design. This refers not only to the physical protection of facilities but also to system backup, the availability of multiple communication channels, cybersecurity, and the possibility of remote control and monitoring. All these aspects have already become an integral part of project implementation.

Tetiana emphasized that transparent reporting, a clear implementation strategy, experience and expertise proven by successful projects as well as the availability of systems for effective management remain critical for investors. In fact, all these approaches to building modern energy infrastructure have already become the standard in Ukraine. And this experience can serve as a guideline for countries that are just beginning to move in this direction.

We thank the event organizers and participants for a productive concluding discussion and for the inspiration to implement new projects for the industry’s development.
