KNESS has obtained licenses to conduct economic activities related to energy storage for the constructed energy storage facility projects. The decision was made on September 2nd, at a session of the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Public Utilities.
Obtaining a license is a step for new electricity market participants to start operating — specifically, energy storage facility operators who will provide ancillary and balancing services to the transmission system operator.
Energy storage is an activity related to shifting electrical energy over time to a point later than when it was generated. It also involves converting electrical energy into another form, initially for storage, and subsequently for further output into the system of transmission/distribution, power plant grid, or consumer.
It is worth noting that KNESS has completed the construction of one of the largest portfolios of ESS projects for the ancillary services provision in Ukraine. This involves over 100 MWh of ESS capacity. KNESS team is currently continuing to work consistently on the market integration of all ESS.
Energy storages are a fairly innovative product on the balancing and ancillary services market in Ukraine, which can and should be developed. The implementation of these facilities will optimize the electricity market functioning, balance and increase the stability of Ukraine’s integrated power system.
