KNESS has completed the construction of all energy storage facility projects within the scope of the special auctions won. This involves more than 100 MWh of ESS capacity, which is currently put into operation (i.e., all facilities have received certificates of completion of construction work). This is one of the largest portfolios of ESS projects for providing ancillary services of Ukraine’s integrated energy system.
ESS projects have been implemented using technological solutions by our strategic partner HiTHIUM, a global manufacturer of energy storage equipment. One of the projects was built using ESS developed and manufactured by KNESS.

The expertise we have accumulated over the years and the modeling of market scenarios for ESS operation have helped us to actively implement energy innovations for Ukraine. This year, we have invested $20 million in ESS projects to support the stability of the energy system, using our own and bank financing, and we have also attracted no less than the same amount from partners”, — notes СЕО of KNESS Sergii Shakalov.
ESS projects have gone through all the key stages: from development, design, procurement, and equipment supply to the physical implementation of facilities—preparation of energy infrastructure, laying of cable lines, installation, commissioning of main equipment, putting into operation, and obtaining a certificate of construction completion.
Currently, KNESS team is working on the market integration of all constructed ESS facilities. This is a complex process that includes connecting the facility to the dispatch control module of the transmission system operator and installing special software. This is the Energy Management System (EMS), which was developed by KNESS RnD center team. This software and hardware complex is the link between the technical indicators of the ESS and trading platforms.
It is worth noting that the implemented projects are an indicator that Ukrainian businesses are investing in projects in Ukraine despite the risks, strengthening the economy, creating jobs, and focusing on the development of their home country. This is also the result of special auctions held by the transmission system operator.
Meeting the demand for reserve services is important for ensuring the reliability of energy supply and the stable synchronous operation of the European and Ukrainian energy systems.
